5 Exciting Weekend Getaways From Bangalore

With our busy lives, let us not forget to take a break and zoom off to a nearby destination for a weekend trip. And if you are more of a traveller than a luxury tourist, here are five weekend getaways from Bangalore which you can take under INR 5,000.

1. Pondicherry

Pondicherry- Live More Zone

Think French architecture and Dutch history, serenity blending into city life, Pondicherry is a Union Territory which was a French colonial settlement. To get the best vibe of the place, we suggest you book a stay in a French architecture inspired homestay or hostel, which are scattered all over the city.

Also, if you want to go scuba diving, head to Serenity Beach that offers you a chance to get acquainted with the underwater world, with its warm, clear waters, good visibility, colourful fishes, and funky-looking corals—highly recommended!

2. Chikmagalur

Chikmagalur is located in the foothills of the Mullayanagiri range and surrounded by lush greenery and coffee plantations. There is quite a lot to do here for the active traveller, including a trek to Mullayanagiri mountains, which is the highest mountain range in Karnataka. Another highly recommended activity is a visit to the Jhari falls, which is also known as the buttermilk falls {you will need to book a jeep for this}.

If you, however, prefer to relax, book a stay at a resort that offers scenic views and enjoy the peace and solitude that is far from the city chaos and in the company of nature.

3. Mysore

Mysore - Live More Zone

No one needs an introduction to Mysore, but at the same time, you cannot deny the fact that this city deserves multiple trips as well. The majestic Mysore Palace, the scenic Brindavan Gardens, the hill-top auspicious temple of Chamundeshwari, the centuries-old Devaraja Market filled with spices, silk and sandalwood, authentic Mysore Pak from Guru, trust us a stopover here will always yield good result. Bonus points if you love to shop!

Tip – Don’t forget to gorge on Masala Dosas, which you will find at almost all street corners. Our pick? Hotel Mylari, located on Nazarbad Main road, it serves dosas at just INR 20. Tables are limited, so be prepared to wait.

4. Yercaud

Some places do not get the appreciation that they should get, with Yercaud being one of them. Situated on the Shevaroy hills in Tamil Nadu, it is a tiny hill station with winding roads and a lot of greenery. The roads leading up to Yercaud are truly incredible, as it provides breathtaking views of the valley below. It is quaint, peaceful and not the most touristy hill-station in South India, this weekend getaway from Bangalore is an ideal fit for solo travellers and romantic couples.

5. Bandipur Tiger Reserve

Bandipur Tiger Reserve - Live More Zone

A forest reserve area located approximately 220 km from Bengaluru, Bandipur offers an experience that everyone should have at least once in their lifetime, namely a jungle getaway! Stay nestled in the thick jungles surrounded by monkeys, birds, and deer, while also occasionally waking up to or spotting a roaring tiger nearby if lucky! It is also very common to spot a herd of elephants here as they can be found crossing the street that runs through the forest connecting Karnataka to Tamil Nadu. Don’t forget your binoculars.

Pro tip: Drive down to these destinations as they are not more than 300 km from Bengaluru. Also, most of the routes to reach the above-mentioned places are very scenic, making it perfect for a road trip with your family/friends. If you do not have a car of your own, book a car online, where you cannot just pay with your card, but also avail the added advantage of pick up and drop facility!
