To most of us, who are holed up in our offices for 8-10 hours a day, fresh and cool air usually means the air-conditioner. As for picturesque locations, we get to enjoy them only on our smartphone screens. Well, you’re closer to tranquillity than you realise. Here are five parks in Delhi that offer the peace you crave.

Deer Park, Hauz Khas

Deer Park is popular among morning walkers and is one of the few spaces in Delhi where you can still breathe in fresh air. It gets its name from an enclosed section for deer, which allows them to live undisturbed. This perfect amalgamation of nature and wildlife gives the park a distinctive feel. It has three other sections-the Rose Garden – with rows of fragrant varieties of roses; the Fountain Park – with its musical fountains, and a District Park which has a duck pond and a picnic spot with several pathways nestled in nature.

Spread over 20 acres, this garden stands over rocky terrain. A sense of calmness washes over you the instant you walk in, and the concrete jungle behind you seems to fade away. Within the garden are pools of water lilies, a herb garden, a bamboo court, a solar energy park and a Mughal garden, all of which offer a soothing escape from the madness of the city.

The lush surrounding and majestic rocks create the perfect backdrop for a picnic or a lazy solo outing on a winter afternoon. And if you’re tired of walking around, plop yourself on one of the many benches lining the garden, and let your mind wander as you listen to the merry chirping of the birds.

Also known as Buddha Jayanti Park, it is located in the Ridge forest area – a natural habitat for songbirds, so the chirping never stops. It is certainly a refreshing change from the sound of blaring horns. The park was developed to commemorate the 2,500th birth anniversary of the Buddha and has a striking statue of the ancient sage, that stands two-and-a-half-meters tall.
