8 Tips To Keep In Mind While Making A Functional Home Office

     0

As more and more teams shift to remote or flexible work from home {WFH} to combat the spread of COVID-19. In fact, many employees feel that working from home is actually more productive working remotely than in a traditional office space. That’s because, in many cases, WFH means fewer distractions, less commute stress, less overall noise, a more personal space, and — most importantly — more comfortable clothes. PJs all day!

All this means that investing in an excellent functional office at home is a good idea. A functional office can be a small spot you’ve carved out in a walk-in closet or your bedroom, and it can be at your dining room table, or, yes, it can be a spare room. So, while there is no standard size requirement for any functional office, the most important criteria are that it just has to work for you.

If you’re working with a smaller space, you might have to get creative, but don’t fret this is a doable task. And to make your job easier – right from finding a corner where proper daylight pours in to buying a desk and buying a new laptop, there is plenty of shopping and decorating to be done before you can share #HomeOffice update on your Insta feed. Read on and keep this bookmarked while you build your own office at home.

Keep Décor Minimal

Pick up the spot where you will create your home office? Now, the first step is to paint the walls. If it is already beige or white, we recommend going for a colour that is known to energize and uplift your mood. You can opt for colours that remind you of beeches, sea breeze or anything that relaxes you. For instance, a turquoise blue, coral, or botanical green might do the trick.

Use Your Location Wisely

While this is not a necessary feature, if you could manage to create your home office in a room that offers a view of the outdoors (sunsets? Even better), your willingness to sit and work for eight hours a day is bound to increase. Plus, if your home office has a window or a balcony, the sunlight pouring in through the day is better than the artificial light we are so accustomed to using.

Once you have settled for a space that offers a stunning view, personalizing it with simple art deco items is equally important. From wallpapers to tapestries and even photo frames on your work desk, make it just like your office desk would be. And since you are home, you can always add potted plants and wallpapers of your favourite fictional character. Whatever sets your mood to get the work done, right?

Follow Ergonomic Rules

Up next comes your table and chair because how much work have we ever got done on the bed? Pick a swivelling chair with a high back that is both premia in design and ergonomically correct. And when it comes to your study/work table, go for the one that is not only functional but has plenty of space to store all your work files and other material. This one in classic white with drawers is just what you need.

Invest In Good Electronic Items

Once the aesthetics of your office is done, get down to the basics and essentials of purchasing the right electronics. Apart from your phone, you will need a computer. The best out there in laptops is the Macbook Pro. A bit on the expensive side but given its features and top-notch design, it is worth it.

Lighting Is Important

If possible, have the desk situated by the window where there’s natural light. It helps to make space feel bigger while keeping you connected to the outdoors. Be sure to position your computer monitor in a way where there is no glare from windows or overhead lights. Also, ensure that the office is well-illuminated too so that you don’t strain your eyes. In addition, you can use a mixture of lighting types, placing a small desk lamp for added task lighting.

If you pan to work late into the night, make sure you get  a beautiful table lamp, which can also function as an important decor element. There are a wide variety of styles that you choose from contemporary to eclectic, depending on your budget and style.

Pick A Good Colour Scheme

Colours have an impact on moods and energy levels; the different colours elicit various emotional and physical responses from people. Bright, warm colours like red stimulate activity while cool colours evoke calmness and relaxation. For an office, you should pick a colour that stimulates focus and concentration, such as medium to deep shades of green. Yellow is also an appropriate colour as it encourages creativity and conversation, which is the right colour for mental work.

Add Some Plants And Greenery

Plants are great stress relievers and air cleaners. They transform the look and feel of a room while filtering the air you breathe, giving you cleaner air for better thinking and productivity. If you are worried about keeping the plant alive, choose plants that are easy to care for and require minimal intervention. These include cacti, succulents and palms.

Stock Up Your Everyday Essentials

This is especially true if you expect other people to share your office space. You don’t want to be darting out of the office every few minutes when you need things. Keep all your office supplies–pens, scissors, stapler, stamps–handy. Consider a small fridge or coffee maker if you like to enjoy a few beverages during the day. However, don’t keep your lunch in the office fridge. You do need breaks, after all, and even if you’ve got an excellent home office, you don’t need to spend your life in there.

Tip – In case you don’t want to dip in your savings to set up a home office to your liking, you can always opt for personal loans. Entirely paperless and instant, digibank by DBS offers you a personal loan from INR 25,000 to 10,00,000.
