When you’re out dancing the night away, it’s easy to lose track of time. Those intense hunger pangs only hit you once the music dies down. So, where should you go when your tummy starts rumbling? Here’s a list of eateries in Mumbai that are open well into the wee hours.    

Bademiya, Colaba

The granddaddy of SoBo’s roadside eateries has grown from a humble stall to an institution. Basic seating is available here, but you can choose to be served in your vehicle. The specialty delicacies served will leave you licking your fingers.

Ustaadi, Crawford Market

The erstwhile Zaffran, which went through a makeover over a year ago, now has a sheesha section and an expanded menu, but still stays open till 6 am when busy. The menu now includes an ‘all-the-time’ breakfast, pan-Asian and continental dishes beyond just pizzas and pasta.  

Must try dishes: Raan biryani, chicken yakhni pulao, Kashu Aunty’s Lamb Nihari and Chef Chetan’s signature butter chicken

Jaffer Bhai’s Delhi Darbar, Grant Road

Located in the heart of what used to be old Bombay, this 45-year-old restaurant may have basic décor, but there’s nothing basic about its food. Just the kebabs will have you looking for reasons to come back for more. 

Must try dishes:  Arab Butter Chicken, Dabba Gosht, Salli Boti  and White Chicken

Sardar Refreshments, Tardeo

Eat here at your own peril, though that’s said with tongue firmly in cheek! This eatery’s most famous dish is its pav bhaji. Served with a large dollop of butter, it’s lip-smacking delicious. While you’re there, don’t forget to sample their delicious seasonal milkshakes.

Mini Punjab, Bandra West

One of Bandra’s institutions, this establishment has been freshly renovated and revamped from a tiny roadside eatery to a swanky restaurant. They’re famous for their Mughlai dishes, but their rolls have become a delicious fixture for late-night eaters spilling out of the many watering holes in and around the area. 

Must try dishes: Tandoori chicken, butter chicken, chicken reshmi roll,  mutton kebab roll and chicken bhuna roll

Cairo Grill, Khar West

There’s nothing Egyptian about this place, but it can surely satisfy your midnight cravings. Choose from a variety of fries which come with mushrooms, chicken, lamb, or sausage. Burgers and shawarmas also feature on the menu – serving as perfect snacks following a night on the tiles. The place also serves New York Truck Style dishes {vegetarian or non-vegetarian variants that include rice seasoned with Mediterranean spices, salad and harissa sauce}.  

Must try dishes: If you’re up for a food challenge, try The Baap Fries which comes with chunks of lamb, chicken, and sausage, plus a fried egg. Other dishes that you must try includes Pulled Lamb and Mushroom Burger along with their host of  New York Truck Style dishes

What Sardar’s pav bhaji is to SoBo, Amar Juice Centre’s version is to NoBo. They are known for their juices and milkshakes, and they serve a variety of chaat and vegetarian meals. And like their food, everything is light on the pocket. 

Must try dishes:  Seasonal shakes and Blossom Delights,besides pav bhaji, kulfi and falooda, especially Amar Falooda

If you’re feeling particularly adventurous, take on the AndaMental Maggi{Maggi noodles, fried egg, garnished with cheese}. Vegetarians will find several mouth-watering dishes from which they can choose as well.
