One of the oldest bakeries in the city, Yazdani Bakery might be easy to miss in the crowded and narrow streets of the Fort, but there is little doubt that this an iconic structure. It has been in business since 1953, when Meherwan Zend, a Parsi baker introduced his one-of-a-kind bun maska chai to lucky customers in the city. Slowly however this Parsi café soon converted into a bakery, which is today popular for its apple pies. Costing only INR 70, this pie might not look as stunning as the one made in other restaurants, but trust us, it will make your heart {and stomach} very happy. After all, you can’t put a price on recipes that are decades old, right?

Although their Colaba outlet is our favourite, they are also located in Bandra {West}, Oshiwara and Lower Parel. Don’t forget to order their delicious waffle topped with chocolate syrup and fresh cream, perfect for whether you are on a date or a shopping break with your friends.

One of the best-loved bakeries in the city is a comprehensive collection of savoury and desserts to suit almost every type of palette. While their black forest cakes promise to be a nostalgic trip for locales in Bombay, make sure you also check out their spectacular mousses, puffs, pastries, croissants and pizzas.

Tip: Pack some pizza from the bakery and head down to Marine drive for some quiet introspection by the sea.

As far as iconic Iranian cafe in Mumbai go, no one gets it better than B. Merwar & Co. Although it was briefly shut for a few years, it is now back to its old glory days of delighting dessert lovers from all over the city. And while you can literally order anything from their menu, their mawa cake is hands-down one of the best in the country. Its’ dense, buttery, and crumbly, just the way it is meant to be. No arguments.

5. City Bakery for chocolate eclairs

Started by Haji Mohammed in 1954, City Bakery is currently run by the Dashti brothers. A landmark in Worli, this bakery is the ideal place for anyone to gorge on puddings and cakes. From nankhatai, teacakes to brunpao and mawa samosa, there are very few items on their menu that will not become an immediate favourite. The best part? It is super affordable and even if you eat your fill, your bill will rarely cross INR 500.

PS: Pack their chocolate eclairs to take home as they cost only INR 29.
