7 Iconic Restaurants In Mumbai And What You Should Order

     0

With a bunch of new restaurants in Mumbai being opened almost every day, it’s hard to keep track of the best ones. While many of them are multinational chains or have roots in other places around the country and the world, some are an inherent part of Mumbai’s culture and heritage.

These restaurants in Mumbai have always kept the local eating scene at par with other culinary capitals of the world. And this list is a compilation of best restaurants in Mumbai that will inspire you to make the journey, to sample a slice of Mumbai, one plate at a time.

1. Candies, Bandra

Candies Restaurants - Live More Zone

Spread across a massive property in Pali Hill, the original Candies deserves a place on any list on the city’s best iconic restaurants. Nearly everything on their menu is worth trying out, though the wait for a spot on their table may sometimes be quite long.

Their amazing chicken sandwiches get over early {so be there in the morning if you want one}, and you can see people ordering cold coffee throughout the day. Interestingly, this café is also considered to be an ideal spot for a date. And of course, the discounts after 8 PM don’t hurt, either. Don’t forget to keep your card handy for easy payment options.

Timings – 8.30 AM – 9 PM

2. Cafe Mondegar, Colaba

Cafe Mondegar - Live More Zone

Both an iconic restaurant and a landmark to find your way around the confusing lanes of Colaba, Cafe Mondegar remains one of the most iconic restaurants in the city. We love their breakfast menu, so make sure to plan your visits around that time. With Mario Miranda’s murals painted all over the cafe, the cafe is a favourite amongst the tourists and the locals.

The cafe’s envious location amidst the busy street lined with beautiful jewellery and colourful clothes, helps it retain its position as one of the most famous cafés in the city. They offer multi-cuisine dishes {mix of Chinese and Indian dishes}, and their beef chilli and bacon-wrapped prawns are items that you can order without a second thought. If you are in the mood for some good old burger, Mondy’s special steak cheeseburger {INR 350} is delicious.

3. Kyani & Co., Marine Lines

Kyani & Co Restaurant - Live More Zone

Irani bakeries and restaurants are a recognizable part of the city’s eating scene, though not many of them have survived through to today. Kyani & Co. is one of the few ones who have managed to remain an integral part of its landscape. Founded in 1904 by Mr. Khodram. Kyani & Co started as a bakery, which made bread, biscuits, cakes, and other teatime bakes and continued the same trend until 1995.

We recommend their keema pav from their menu, which is one of the best versions in the city. Other unmissable items include their famous Parsi bun maska, sali boti, Akuri, kheema pao, and the legendary mawa cake. Your meal cannot be complete without a bottle of Palomji Raspberry Soda.

4. New Martin Hotel, Colaba

New Martin Hotel - Live More Zone

While the place is inherently Goan in its cuisine, it’s been a part of afternoon excursions for college students nearby from across the city for as long as one can remember. With barely ten tables and the kitchen right in front, this non-AC eatery has its dishes of the day chalked out on a blackboard right at the entrance.

The Goan-style steak with onions and chips, choris (Goan pork sausage) pav and chilly fry are hot favorites. At times, you may be lucky to savour their special apricot custard that isn’t available anywhere else in Mumbai. The best time to visit is on a Sunday afternoon.

With their main outlet in Fort and other branches in the suburbs, Mahesh Lunch Home serves up some of the city’s best seafood. There’s a lot to choose from on their menu, from traditional Mughlai to their signature seafood dishes.

If you are visiting for the first time, we highly recommend asking the servers about the catch of the day – their staff is super helpful. All said, their Butter Pepper Garlic Prawns are delightful, and you can’t go wrong with their Stuffed Pompret. Thank us later.

Cafe Madras is one of the best place to eat in Mumbai. The long lines that form outside the cafe every morning when it opens at 7 AM are a testament to its evergreen popularity. Head there for breakfast to have everything hot and fresh, though it’s an excellent place for lunch and dinner, too.

If you are confused about what to order, you can’t go wrong with their delicious ragi dosa {crispy and yum}, upma podi, bisibele baat, and fantastic filter coffee. Weekend morning breakfast sorted.
