Weekend Getaways From Mumbai Under INR 5,000

If you’ve never been to the outskirts of Mumbai, we’d say that you’ve been missing out on quite a bit. Not only is it beautiful, there’s a mind-boggling number of places to check out. While you can always go all out and make it an expensive trip, we’d focus on the ones where you don’t need to shell out your entire savings to have exactly the same amount of fun as you would otherwise.

Keeping in mind that your accommodation and conveyance is sorted out on a budget, we’ve come up with 4 places you can travel to around Mumbai under INR 5,000 this weekend.

1. Lonavala

Even if it’s always been on the list of places to go to from Mumbai on weekends for the most of us {especially once the monsoons hit}, we can say that we’re yet not tired of packing up our bags and heading to Lonavala.

It’s barely two hours away from Mumbai, and there are a lot of scenic places nearby to check out. Just make sure to hire a car of your own from a budget service provider {don’t forget to use your debit card to avail some exciting offers} in case you’re planning to explore. This one is definitely for the hill-lovers out there.

If you have time and truly want to go offbeat, we also recommend you stop at Panchgani which is located 158 km {2 hours away} from Lonavala. A quaint hill station that seems straight out of a book, it boasts of strawberry fields, local legends, and old-school British and Parsi charm.

Lonavala is 82.8km/1hr 41mins away by road and approx 2hr18 mins by train from Mumbai

2. Karjat

Once the preferred spot for party peeps in Mumbai to book a house and head to for special celebrations, Karjat has fallen out of favour in recent times for other faraway places. That doesn’t mean that we still don’t love it, as it’s still full of greenery and calm that we’re all looking for in our hectic city lives. There are a lot of budget options to stay at here as well, so you’d easily not end up spending more than 5k if you don’t want to.

Karjat is 62.6 km/1hr 40 mins away by road and approx 1hr 28 mins by train from Mumbai

3. Mahabaleshwar

Many people end up not opting for this one due to the relative distance of it from Mumbai, though the ones who do are treated to some of the most breathtaking views of the Western Ghats.

Mahabaleshwar is famous for many fruit plantations and hospitable homestays if you do your due research, and we’d highly recommend it if you’re looking for weekend-trip options. Many hotels can be expensive here, however, so go for a budget property – like the ones on offer by Treebo – and you should be sorted {don’t forget to use your debit card to avail discounts on your hotel bookings}.

Mahabaleshwar is 263 km/5hr 6mins away by road and approx 7hr by train from Mumbai

4. Kamshet

There are two popular attractions in Kamshet, namely Buddhist caves that date back to centuries and paragliding. Feel the wind on your hair as you watch the incredible topography below – a perfect way to spend the weekend right. If you want to spend more time on the ground, head to the Buddhist caves nearby which includes the Karla, Bhaja, and Bhedsa caves, with Karla caves having the largest prayer hall in India.
