5 Potato-Inspired Recipes To Cook When You Are Craving Carbs


Choosing a delicious side dish to serve at a group meal or a treat meal for yourself at the end of a hectic week can sometimes be a difficult decision. But thankfully there is one food item that is pretty much universally beloved, and that’s potatoes. Whether they’re the star of your side dishes or a go-to on an average Tuesday night, potatoes are the most versatile of starches. I mean, think about it: Have you ever met a person that’s said no to a delicious potato recipe?

Garlic-Flavoured Potato Roast


  • Potatoes – ½ kg, small or medium-sized
  • Olive oil – 2 Tbsp 
  • Salt – as required
  • Black pepper powder – 1 tsp
  • Garlic – 1 Tbsp, chopped
  • Parsley – 1 Tbsp, freshly chopped


  1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees.
  2. Cut the potatoes in quarters and place in a baking dish.
  3. Drizzle with olive oil, sprinkle salt and pepper, and add the chopped garlic. Ensure that the potatoes are coated well.Roast in the oven for an hour; flip twice, so they cook well from all sides.
  4. Remove from the oven once the potatoes are crispy brown.
  5. Serve hot.

Sinful Potato Casserole 


  • Potatoes – 3-4 small to medium-sized, chopped into chunks
  • Minced meat – 1 cup
  • Salt and pepper – for taste
  • Cream cheese – 1 cup
  • Cheddar cheese – 1 cup
  • Onion – 2 medium, sliced thinly
  • Oil – 2-3 tsp
  1. Method
  2. Preheat oven to 250 degrees, grease a baking dish with oil and set aside.
  3. Heat some oil in a pan and cook the meat until crispy. Transfer to a plate.
  4. Place the potatoes into the prepared casserole dish; toss with some salt and pepper.
  5. Roast the potatoes until golden brown or for 45-50 minutes.
  6. Mix the cream cheese, cheddar in a bowl until blended well. 
  7. Dollop the cheesy mix over the roasted potatoes, sprinkle the crispy cooked meat, and bake until the cheese starts to bubble. It should take about 15-16 minutes. 
  8. Remove, serve hot sprinkled with some sliced onions.

Potato Caesar Salad


  • Potatoes – ½ kg
  • White vinegar – 1 Tbsp
  • Salt – as required
  • Mayonnaise – 1 cup
  • Lemon juice – 1 Tbsp, freshly squeezed
  • Mustard sauce – 1 Tbsp
  • Sugar – 1 tsp
  • Garlic – 3-4 cloves, chopped
  • Olive oil – 2 Tbsp
  • Bread crumbs – 1 Tbsp
  • Parsley – handful, freshly chopped


  1. Put the potatoes in a pan filled with water. Bring the water to a boil. Cook the potatoes tender.
  2. After they’ve cooled down, peel them and cut into even chunks.
  3. Put in a bowl and while still warm, add some vinegar and salt.
  4.  In another bowl, whisk together lemon juice, mayonnaise, sugar, mustard sauce, garlic and salt.
  5. Add the potatoes to this whisked mixture and toss well so each piece coats well.
  6. Heat some oil in a pan and stir fry the crumbs and parley.
  7. Put the potatoes in a serving plate and garnish with the breadcrumbs and parsley mix to serve.

Cheesy Baked Potatoes


  • Potatoes – 7-8 medium-sized, cut lengthwise into halves
  • Oil – 3 Tbsp
  • Salted butter – 2 sticks
  • Bacon bits – 1 cup
  • Sour cream – 1 cup
  • Cheddar cheese – 1 cup
  • Whole milk – 1 cup
  • Salt – as required
  • Onions – 2-3, sliced
  • Black pepper powder – as required


  1. Preheat your oven to 250 degrees.
  2. Rub the potato halves with oil and place in a baking sheet. Bake for an hour, ensuring they’re cooked well.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, add butter, bacon bits, sour cream. 
  4. After removing the potatoes from the oven, lower the temperature to 150 degrees.
  5. Scrape out the insides of the potato halves. Be careful that you don’t tear the crisp skin. Leave a small potato rim intact for support.
  6. Add the scraped out potato bits into the bacon and cream mix and mash well.
  7. Add cheese, milk, salt, pepper, onions and mix well.
  8. Heap the potato shells with this filling. Top with some more grated cheese.
  9. Place them in the oven again and bake for 15 minutes.
  10. Serve hot.

Crispy Potato Bites


  • Small potatoes – ½ kg
  • Baking soda – 1 Tbsp
  • Salt and pepper
  • Olive oil – ½ cup
  • Garlic – 5-6 cloves, smashed
  • Thyme, rosemary or other herbs of choice


  1. Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  2. Add potatoes to a large pan. Pour cold water over and add baking soda and salt to it. Bring to a boil on medium heat.
  3. Drain the potatoes and let them dry.
  4. Then, place them on a baking tray and drizzle with the oil and add in garlic and the herbs. Make sure that the potatoes are covered well.
  5. Sprinkle some salt and pepper.
  6. Now, gently but firmly smash the potatoes, ensuring that they just flatten and are mostly intact.
  7. Roast until they’re golden brown and crispy or for 20-25 minutes. Serve while hot.
