5 Easy Recipes That Are Better Than Takeout

A lot of people have gotten by in life without learning how to cook even the basic recipes. With the infinite number of food delivery systems, we never felt the need to acquire what was once an essential life skill.

However, with social distancing becoming the new normal, life seems to have other plans for us. Now, all of us non-cooks are faced with a challenge, and I think with a little practice and inspiration, we can rise to it. Here is are five recipes, even someone who has never cooked before can master during this quarantine.

Grilled Cheese Sandwich

Ideal for a beginner in the kitchen

Ingredients

  • Four slices of bread
  • Two tablespoons of butter
  • Two slices of cheddar cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat a skillet over medium heat
  2. Butter one side of the bread portion and place it butter-side-down onto the skillet and add one slice of cheese
  3. Butter the second slice of bread and place butter-side-up on top of the sandwich
  4. Grill until the bread is lightly browned and flip over; continue grilling until the cheese has melted
  5. It is that simple, and all you have to do is enjoy your decadent and cheesy delight

Anda Bhurji Recipe

Ideal for a beginner in the kitchen

Ingredients

  • Three eggs
  • Two tablespoons of oil
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cumin
  • One onion (finely chopped)
  • One tomato (finely chopped)
  • 1 green chilli (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon of ginger-garlic paste
  • 1 teaspoon of garam masala
  • 1/2 teaspoon of red chilli powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon of turmeric
  • Coriander leaves for garnish

Directions

  1. Crack all three eggs in a bowl. Add salt and turmeric. Next, beat the eggs until frothy and set them aside
  2. Move on to cutting your veggies. Chop onions and tomatoes and add a green chilli
  3. Heat oil in a pan and add jeera. When it begins to splutter, add onions, chilli and fry until they are golden brown
  4. Add the ginger-garlic paste and cook till the raw smell goes away. Add tomatoes and fry until the oil from the tomatoes begins to separate.
  5. Now, add garam masala, chilli powder, and salt at this stage and fry until the raw masala smell goes away. Pour the egg mixture and scramble lightly
  6. Keep stirring to avoid the burning. Stir well and fry for a couple of minutes. Switch the stove off and garnish with coriander
  7. Serve it up with some pav or roti and enjoy

Spaghetti Aglio E Olio

Ideal for someone who has cooked in the kitchen

Ingredients

  • 400 grams of Spaghetti
  • 10 cloves of garlic (thinly sliced)
  • 1/2 cup of olive oil
  • Red pepper flakes (as per your taste)
  • 1/4 cup of chopped parsley
  • 1 cup of parmesan cheese (finely grated)
  • Salt and pepper (to taste)

Directions

  1. Bring a large pot of heavily salted water to boil. Once the water is boiling, add the spaghetti and cook as per instructions on the box {Usually about 10-12 minutes}
  2. Now, drain the pasta using a colander and transfer to a bowl. Combine oil and garlic and cook it over medium heat for about 10 minutes. You can reduce the heat when the oil starts to boil and cook it till the garlic is golden brown
  3. Remove from heat and pour it into your cooked spaghetti. Stir in the chilli flakes, salt, pepper into the pasta
  4. Finally add parsley and the parmesan and stir until combined
  5. Add some more cheese over the pasta before eating to truly relish the fruits of your labour

Corn And Beetroot Salad Recipe

Ideal for someone who has cooked in the kitchen

Ingredients

  • 2 medium beetroots (boiled and chopped)
  • 1 cup of corn (shucked and boiled)
  • 1 bunch of coriander (chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon rock salt
  • 3/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon of lemon juice

Directions

  1. Boil water and cook beetroot for about five to seven minutes
  2. Do the same process for corn for about five minutes. Transfer the beets and corn into a bowl and let it cool
  3. Next, add the rock salt, pepper and lemon juice and toss well
  4. Finally garnish with coriander and dig into your healthy and tasty bowl of nutrition

Butter Garlic Mushrooms

Ideal for someone who has cooked in the kitchen

Ingredients

  • 500 grams of white button mushrooms (sliced)
  • 3 tablespoons of butter
  • 8 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • Black Pepper (to taste)
  • 2 teaspoons of dried oregano (Can be substituted with any Italian seasoning)

Directions

  1. Melt butter in a skillet on medium heat. Add garlic and stir till the raw smell goes away
  2. Add mushroom and stir till the water evaporates. Avoid crowding the mushrooms on the pan and sauté till they are tender
  3. Next, add the salt, pepper and seasoning. This delicious dish can be paired with toast or some herbed rice
