Where To Go In January: Travel Ideas For The Month

The New Year 2020 is here and with it has come the need to travel and discover new locations. And while you’re planning your travel itinerary, we want you to start off the new year with a bang and explore these popular and hidden gems around the country. It’s the best time to travel and here’s where you should go.

Pratapgarh Farms, Haryana

A popular family’s-day-out destination, Pratapgarh Farms has steadily become a well-known player in the weekend getaway scene. They call themselves a farm tourism destination and to that end, offer you and your family the chance to tend goats, cows, buffalos, and even plough, sow and reap. Pretty unique!

If that’s not your cup of tea, they also offer charkha weaving, pottery, mud wall painting, mud packs, head massages and much more. Have a sports buff in the family? There are enough games and rides on offer here. Best of all, their breakfast and lunch is farm to table, with simple, delicious meals that are unlimited!

If you plan to go by road from Delhi, we recommend you book a self-driven car like Zoomcar as public transport is quite erratic in the interior regions.

Rio Resort, Lansdowne

While there are plenty of lovely hotels and resorts in Lansdowne, we picked this one simply for its river views. Just 7 hours away from Delhi, surrounded by oak and rio trees, the wooden cottages overlook the river Silgarh, making this the perfect getaway for people looking to just unwind. It is situated at the foothill of where Lansdowne begins, which means adventurous travellers can really build up an appetite.

Solluna Resort, Jim Corbett

The Solluna Resort, in the valley of Marchula, takes inspiration from the sun (Sol) and the moon (Luna) visible together at dusk. From yoga to jungle safaris, angling to gypsy rides, candlelit dinners to treks, Solluna has it all. Consistently rated well on TripAdvisor, these cottages are sure to be a hit whether you take the whole fam or just bae.

Bundelkhand Riverside, Orcchha

For history buffs, and for people who don’t mind a train journey (or a nine-hour journey by road), the Bundelkhand Riverside Heritage hotel in Madhya Pradesh is a great, not-too-expensive experience.

Built on 50 acres of land on the banks of the river Betwa in Orchha, the Old House was once used as a hunting lodge by the erstwhile royal family of Orchha. If you can, try to check-in around the full moon; guests can sit out in the verandahs and hear and see the river flowing past.

They offer open-air dining under the stars with a bonfire, musical entertainment by musicians from the Bundelkhand region every evening and river rafting, boating and canoeing during the day.

Tip – Flights between Delhi and Orchha start at just INR 3,660 – book your tickets here.

Blue Poppy Resort, Auli

With 17 wooden huts and unbeatable views of higher peaks like Hathi, Ghoda, Palki and Nanda Devi, Blue Poppy is also the only resort in Auli that is motorable and from which Nanda Devi is visible. The entire resort is constructed in alpine wood; apart from bathroom floors and pathways you won’t see any cement here.

Food is cooked daily and is absolutely yum; you’ll need it after all the skiing, camping and trekking. For first-time trekkers, senior citizens or children, they also organize camping at Gorson top, a mild trek in the middle of the forest.

Syna Heritage Hotel, Khajuraho

While Khajuraho has endless budget options, we recommend a winter getaway to the Syna Heritage hotel. Since you’re more likely to take a train here than a 13-hour drive, why not spend that extra time unwinding at a heritage property that is located close to many local attractions, has a children’s playground to keep them occupied, has a fantastic swimming pool, and a hot tub? They even have a spa!

Looking for something even more fancy? Try the Lalit, which also offers fabulous views.

A Dog’s Story, Jaipur

Pet owners, you didn’t think we’d forget about you, did you? Possibly the only resort in India that doesn’t let you check-in if you don’t have a pet, this resort, which is about 20 minutes from Amer Fort offers rooms that are equipped with a private lawn and pool so that you and your pet can have a gala time. Want to go out and explore? They have a pet daycare facility that is safe and run by people who understand that you’re leaving behind a piece of your heart.
